Waking up and having your own makeup and hair glam squad is reserved for a lucky few (ahem, J Lo). So for the rest of us, doing our makeup and hair can be pretty daunting. This is why we love to spend hours on end (you’ve been warned, they’re highly addictive) watching YouTube beauty gurus teach us step-by-step on how to create makeup and hair looks. From learning the basics (5 minute makeup) to handy tips (covering up a pesky blemish) to celeb-inspired tutorials (Emma Stone’s flawless look, you got it). To help you get started, we curated a list of our favourites but of course if you are going to look good you need to compliment that with some trendy women’s shoes.
Sam and Nic Chapman are the British sister act behind Pixiwoo. Both professional makeup artists, the cheeky sisters teach us all things makeup. Their most popular vid? A video called “Drag Makeup Tutorial” – so it was only fitting that to celebrate their millionth subscriber, they made over celeb chef Jamie Oliver into Madonna circa 1980’s. We die.
Known for their step-by-step hair tutorials, Mimi & Leyla teach us how to create crisscross braids, easy twisted side buns and summer beach waves. Jealous of the sisters gorgeous long dark locks? The secrets out, Luxy Hair is actually Mimi & Leyla’s line of clip-in hair extensions used in the videos. Their most popular vid? “How to Five Strand Braid”.
L.A.-based Michelle is known for her easy-to-follow videos narrated by her angelic voice. You can learn everything from “Makeup for Glasses” to getting “Pretty Prom” ready to creating “Tiger Eyes”. Her most popular vid? Her “Barbie Transformation Tutorial” . It’s a lil’ early for Halloween, but we’re bookmarking this!
L.A.-born Kandee’s videos are stacked with personality. She’s a lil’ bit rock & roll – her current ‘do, short bleached blonde hair à la Miley Cyrus. We love her practical videos like “Flawless Teen Foundation” and “How to Cover a Zit”. Her most popular vid though, getting sparkly lips with the “Glitterati Lip Tattoo”.
We love the celeb-inspired makeup tutorials from Canadian pro makeup artist Eman. Taking requests from fans, she shows us how to get looks like Rihanna on the red carpet at the Grammys (remember the red dress?) or Kim Kardashian’s signature look. Her most popular vid? A Lea Michele tutorial (that’d be Rachel from Glee) for smoky eye makeup.
