Prom Checklist for Guys

Published 05/14/2013 by

Guys, it’s Prom season! With the big night right around the corner, there’s a lot to think about. We’ve come up with this handy checklist to make sure you’re on the ball from prep to Prom.

Ask a date:

If you’ve already got a main squeeze skip directly to step 2. If not, don’t fret. Ask someone you know pretty well. They’re more likely to say yes, and you’ll probably have a better time with them, whether you’re asking them as a friend or as something more romantic. As far as how to ask, whether it’s a huge spectacle or just a simple question, the most important thing is to ask with confidence.

Get your tux:

It’s not yet time in your life to buy a tux, so a rental tux it is! A traditional black tux with a black bowtie is the go-to. If you want to wear something more quirky, try adding some nice sneakers, or going with a white tux instead – just be sure to clear it with your date first. Don’t bring a cane, or wear a pimp hat. You want to stand out for the right reasons.

Flower power:

Traditionally, guys buy corsages for girls, and girls buy boutonnieres for guys. Before you spend a dime on a corsage, make sure you figure out what your date’s wearing. Whatever floral arrangement you end up getting should coordinate with the colours they’re wearing. If you want to add a special touch, ask if they have a favourite flower.

Day of:

Make sure you’re in tip-top shape for the big day. Get a fresh haircut and a clean shave, choose your favourite cologne, and suit up. Once you’re ready, it’s time to pick up your date. Arrive on time (five minutes early) so you can charm the parents, and take pictures before you head out. And don’t forget to give your date a big compliment. Something like, “Wow, you look amazing,” is enough. It’s all about how you say it.

After Prom:

There are countless movies about the crazy after-Prom parties that supposedly go down. Stick with your friends and have fun – but not too much fun. You want to have plenty of memories you actually remember from this night. And you want to get you and your date home safe and sound.

There you have it! Now got out there and Prom it like you mean it.
