A hot trend for guys right now is drop-crotch pants, also known as carrot-cut pants. These are the skinny fit pants for guys who are uncomfortable wearing skinny pants. With a whole lot of room in the crotch area that tapers down to a fitted ankle, these pants aren’t for the faint of heart. Confident trendsetters like Will.i.am and Justin Bieber have been wearing these as comfortable travel pants as they traverse the globe, but people in the real world have taken a love it or hate it attitude towards these vegetable-shaped bottoms.
The severity of the drop may be the biggest controversy. Crotch altitude ranges from mid-thigh all the way down to below the knee. At a certain point doesn’t a crotch sitting at your ankles just become a long skirt for men? And, if yes, is that a good look?
My take on this trend is to engage with caution. A drop crotch pant in moderation shows that you’re fashion-forward and willing to take risks, but a crotch that hangs too low makes you look like you’re trying too hard. Make sure you wear them to an appropriate occasion, like when you’re jet setting or sitting in the park, not to a job interview or to a fancy restaurant.
What’s your opinion on the drop crotch trend? How low should you go? Like skinny jeans, will we all be wearing these in just a few years? Are drop crotch pants hot or not?
