While we can’t help but love watching what the storied houses of Oscar de la Renta (what up Oscar PRGirl!), Gucci and Valentino are sending down the runway each season, we’re turning our attention to a younger generation of designers. From New York to London and Paris this is our list of the up-and-comers you need to watch.
Rosie Assoulin, New York
Already counting Leandra Medine, The Man Repeller extraordinaire, as a huge fan (in fact it was Medine who convinced the designer to start her own line), the Brooklyn-native has been working in the biz for a while, clocking time at both de la Renta and Lanvin. We love her soft sophistication and beautiful colour palette.
Kaelen, New York
Downtown girls rejoice because Kaelen knows exactly what you want to wear –right now. Her playground: the Lower East Side (full disclosure, this writer has visited her NYC-pad and it’s beyond amazing), and she intends on dressing the beautiful denizens that roam her streets. Think easy separates in grey, white and a very healthy amount of black.
Ostwald Helgason, London
Today’s street style stars are already huge fans of the London-based label by Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason. Their signature: loads of prints and colour blocking in soft, feminine silhouettes.
J.W. Anderson, London
Originally from Ireland, this London-based designer has quickly become known for his uncompromising vision and his ability to explore an idea from season to season. Watch out for Anderson’s minimal yet extremely quirky stamp on the Madrid-based leather goods company Loewe coming soon.
Bouchra Jarrar, Paris
Bouchra Jarrar is a Parisian through and through, which means masculine tailoring, lots of stripes and simple sweaters with silver and gold accents –which all seem effortlessly feminine when combined together. How very French she is.
Anthony Vaccarello, Paris
For this Belgian-born, Paris-based designer (and ANDAM Award alum), the slick, Parisian streets of the night serve as a constant inspiration for his uber-sexy designs. Think black, black and (more!) black on miniskirts, lace and body-con dresses.
