The iPhone’s notoriety lies within its ability to do nearly everything, with the exception of brushing your teeth and walking your dog (they’re working on an app for that). Developers are on their toes as the list of apps continues to flourish in the iTunes store. We’ve rounded up ten iPhone apps designed to ease, entertain, and distract you. Take a look!
1. Simple – Free
Budgeting can be bonkers! Let Simple do all of the not-so-simple math in helping you manage your finances across the board. It takes into account, literally, all of your expenses and produces a “what you can spend” daily limit. Think of Simple as your chatty piggy bank who’s just watching out for you!
2. Heads up – $.99
Sure to be a crowd pleaser. Play Heads up while you wait at the subway station, during your lunch break, heck in the grocery store! Heads up is a speed-version of charades. Hold your iPhone up to your fore-head and your fellow comrades act out a given phrase, person, or thing displayed on your screen, all while being filmed by the “selfie” cam. Flip your phone down if they’re right and up if they want to pass. Watch it all on cam after! A hoot all around.
3. MyFitnessPal – Free
Winter is approaching! That doesn’t mean you can’t avoid putting on the seasonal 5-10 LBs! My FitnessPal is the best buddy who won’t sugarcoat (pun intended) your sneaky eating habits! Keep on the straight and narrow path by attentively plugging in all of your eats including indulgences, and MyFitnessPal will help you maintain the right notch on your belt from the safety of your pocket!
4. VSCO Cam & Whitagram – both Free
No more scratching your head at how you’re going to crop your money shot for your Instagram family and followers. Think of VSCO as the Photoshop for iPhone and Whitagram as the perfect frame that you search aisle after aisle for in the shopping mall. With these two together, you’re bound to master the knack of producing stunning all star images that still fit in the square Instagram box. Both allow you to export directly to the Instagram app.
5. Bitstrips – Free
Bitstrips offers customizable comics with your friend’s faces! The app has blown up on Facebook feeds, the Twittersphere and among group iMessagesalike. Simple and worthy of wasting time, Bitstrips allows you to tailor your own ‘bitty’ comic strip shareable across all social media platforms.
6. Cocktail Flow – Free
Despite what your Aunt at your last Chanukah party may have told you, nearly everyone is cut out to tend bar with flare and fury thanks to Cocktail Flow. Whether your home-bar is modest or epic, plug in what you have on the shelf and this app will craft a digital Rolodex of cocktail recipes with itemized instructions! Nifty features include suggested shopping lists for stocking the bar and themed cocktail recipes!
7. Audible – Free
Woe is the conundrum of having a lack of “free time” on your hands, solved by this “hands free app”. You don’t have to pick up a hardcover—listen to an audiobooks on-the-go with Audible. As the iTunes store points out, Audible is a stellar app to fill in daily and weekly activities including travel, laundry folding, and your work out! The app offers a number of features making quick navigation seamless.
8. SayHi Translate – $2.00
Sometimes you have a lot to say, and just don’t know how to say it. But no, actually! SayHi translate is tailored for the traveler, useful for the novice learner, and appropriate for the twice-removed (foreign) distant cousin. Select your input and output languages and allow SayHi to act as a human translator. The app has an easy interface and is constantly producing updates with added dialects of over 30 different languages.
9. Burner – Free
No, this is not a throwaway prepaid cellphone. But the idea lives on with this all-too clever app allowing you a burner, or temporary phone number. Burner is ideal for pizza deliveries you don’t want to be reminded of, public advertisements, and angry messages left in the comments sections of your favorite online reads. “Call me never! Or just once, because this is a burner number…”
10.IFTTT – Free
Everyone loves to speak in hypotheticals. IFTTT (If this, then that) encourages it. Create a number of actions and triggers that IFTT refers to as “recipes”. These recipes act as instant notifications on your iPhone. Unfortunately, I can attest that if “Mom” calls, it won’t tell her not to leave a lengthy voicemail message…
