What is your job?
E-Commerce Merchandise Coordinator For Call It Spring.
What is your nickname at work (either welcome or unwelcome) – and why?
Oh that’s easy Shy or ShyShy. Partly because it’s literally the first half of my name and partly because I am…shy (Editor’s Note: that statement is a total lie.)
Give us a brief overview of what you do at CIS?
To put it simply, I am the Visual Merchandiser for our website (callitspring.com). I ensure that we are in the same mind frame as the in store visual merchandisers. I also create new and fun ways to showcase our merchandise and promote up and coming trends.
What brought you to CIS?
I attended George Brown College in Toronto, focusing on Visual Merchandising/ Styling. During my time in TO, I interned at a wholesale agency and assisted in picking product for various TV personalities. I gained a lot of experience in styling and merchandising and wanted to hone in on those skills in my favourite city and in an environment that was super innovative!
What is your favourite part of your job?
Working with a fabulous team that is super supportive and are true gems . I love that we work in a creative environment that really gives you room to play and have fun with the product you are featuring. There is so much one can do via the web, and it’s very exciting to be a part of something that is so quickly evolving and expanding.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The hardest part of my job is sticking to my ‘To Do List’. E-Commerce is so reactive and it’s challenging, as well as exciting, to find ways to consistently be ahead of the game while keeping up with the ‘List’
What are the greatest misconceptions about what you do?
To be honest, a lot of people have the misconception that working in E-comm means working with a lot of programs, and dealing with a lot of numbers. But there is a huge part of E-comm that is super creative and I feel really lucky that I get to play with new product and new constructions to see what would look great on our site!
What do you bring to the CIS brand?
CIS is really fun and energetic, and I think I bring a lot of energy into what I do. I always come in full throttle and give 120%! I also like that there’s laughter and imagination behind the scenes and I really believe that, that translates into what is on our site
If I weren’t ______ I would be _____?
If I weren’t a merchandise coordinator I would be a travel show host
Oh geez… I can Salsa dance!
What advice would you offer up to someone who wants to pursue a similar career path?
Have a lot of passion and be a team player. Always be on the look for new ways to promote the merchandise and most importantly, have fun and love what you’re doing!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from a few outlets. To be honest, I love reading, so a lot of my inspiration comes from books. Apart from that, I love keeping up to date with different blogs and websites. They are a great source to expand your imagination and really gain knowledge on what’s trending.
What are you personally loving at CIS right now?
I love the fact that we are getting a ton of cool constructions in beautiful hues. It’s so hard to pick just one! I think that the season to come is going to be great!
Any last words?
Always have fun and give your very best. Find the joy in everything that you do and you’ll never work a day in your life.
