Call it Spring talks with model Axelle

Published 05/21/2014 by

Meet Axelle. You might recognize this beautiful lady from our spring campaign and now she’s back for summer 2014. We sat down with her to chat about how she got into modelling and what’s she gets up to when she’s not giving great face.

What is your full name?

My name is Axelle Viramontes de la Torre.

That is a really beautiful name, where does it come form?

It comes from Mexico. It is half the last name of my father and half the last name of my mother put together.

Oh, it’s very nice. Do you have any siblings?

Yeah I have two sisters older than me, one is 21 and the other is 24 and they live here in Montreal.

How old are you?

I just turned 18.

Is Montreal your hometown?

No, I was born in Mexico and I arrived here when I was 6 years old.

I guess, similar to Benjamin (our other summer/14 model) you must be trilingual?

Yeah, I speak Spanish, English and French.

When did you start modeling?

I was 14 years old. I didn’t have an agency. My sister found me jobs , ”so you can do this and you can go there.” And then she had a friend whose a stylist and he brought me to some runway shows and I did that, and then after he brought me to Folio last year and yeah… they took me!

And was it something that you wanted to pursue?

Yeah, I always wanted it. I [grew up ] watching America’s Next Top Model and I was like oh-my-god that is so cool!

Is it what you are doing full time right now?

No I study. I am at the Cégep of Sainte-Hyacinthe. I’m taking Science Humaine; I know don’t what it is in English.

Yeah but not like for medicine, or anything. It is for…

Yeah humanities! (**The real term is Social Science**). With mathematics and… Yeah, I don’t know what to do later but right now this is what I am doing. And now I am on Spring Break.

Congratulations. Do you have any plans for your Spring Break?

Hmm… I am going to study a lot. I have a lot of exams next week. Every day I have and exam so that’s what I am going to do.

And do you have any minor passions and pursuits outside of work? Because you are quite a busy woman, you have school, you have modeling. What do you do in your free time?

I go out with friends. I like to workout and I love to… I don’t know take it easy!

The theme and feel for this summer campaign is inspired by the lush landscape of Jamaica. Have you ever been to Jamaica yourself?

No never.  I would like to.

What is the furthest place you’ve travelled?

The furthest place I think is France.

Was it for work or for pleasure?

It was to visit my family. Actually my aunt is French so she has a home over there and we went, and we traveled to Paris and we traveled a little bit around the country. I went to Belgium too which is really near France, and yeah it was the furthest.

Do you have anything, big trips planned for yourself after, say you’re done school?

I don’t know. I don’t have anything planned but I know this summer I’m going to visit my family in Mexico.

I know you were pretty young when you left but is there anything that stands out that you miss from Mexico? That you find different from being here?

Obviously my family. Sometimes we Skype and I am really emotional and I remember a lot of when I was there. That’s what I miss the most, especially during Christmas…Our Christmas is just the immediate family. I remember when I was little with all the cousins and aunts, because my grandmother she has 8 kids or 9. So I have a lot of cousins and we all get together so it was really fun.

So you must be really looking forward to the summertime.

What are the types of things you do when you are together?

They make us visit a lot because it is very beautiful where I live and I don’t go often so they make it fun. We go to the beach.

It’s been a pleasure Axelle, as always, to chat with you.

Thank you!
