You know what they say… One thing at a time. Two heads are better than one. Don’t judge a book by its cover. For every need, there’s a bag. Okay, I might have made that last one up, but there’s always room for new proverbs, right? All I know, is that this one is going to be much needed this fall.
The back-to-school fever has barely cooled off, that my socialite calendar is suddenly crazy packed. That results into me running from a downtown 5 à 7 to a tree-climbing session trying to pursue the perfect apple picking technique.
In order to make my life easier, I divided my schedule into four main activities that pop up regularly in my agenda with the perfect bag to go with it: work, errands, Sunday brunch with friends and date nights (which, I will admit, could be happening a tad more often, but I’m a strong believer in positive thinking).
I’m not a lawyer (obviously) which gives me a lot of freedom with my workwear attire. My secret? I aim for clean cut silhouettes and unexpected colours, textures and patterns combinations. The idea is to achieve a sartorial mix that whispers “surprise” when you look at it.
For my bag, it’s simple. I basically carry my life in it when I’m heading to the office. I pack a vintage Paris Review for entertainment during my bus ride, a kombucha tea for that midday boost, a concealer so I can feel, or at least look, refreshed for after work drinks and my notebook, for obvious reasons (I write for a living).
Tadaaa! A bag in a bag to keep the clutter organized – the CARPEGNA does the trick. It does double duty for me!
Morning scenario: it’s 9:30 am. My phone rings. It’s my friend (a real serious brunch lover) who wants to go for breakfast. Like now. I blindly grab my loosest clothes, although still flattering, because I’m HUNGRY in the morning. I slip on a tuque to camouflage my rebel hairdo and I’m out the door.
Despite the fact that all that motion is done with my eyes half open, I still manage to pack up my survival kit. Firstly, a bright lipstick to light up my porcelain skin that’s not at it’s perkiest at that time of day. Second, a dry shampoo to hopefully tame the mess that’s happening under my hat, because I still believe in taking your hat off when you go to a restaurant. Thirdly, my tiny sktechbooks which will be useful in case I have to wait for my friend (which will likely happen). Finally, my phone so I can show my friend the texts my crush sent me the night before and overanalyze them with her. Come on, we all do it!
The ARIZTO is a perfect get up and grab – chic tote. It brings polish and a dash of glam to casual brunching gear.
One of the best things about this time of year is the outdoor markets. Although they happen all summer long, they have that extra je-ne-sais-quoi in the midst of fall weather. With my loafers (aka slippers), my sporty crop top and my comfy sweater on, I can easily survive for several hours. Here is a trick: a small bag in which you can fit many things will be your best bet. No chance of knocking off an apple stand and literally turning McIntosh red! Simultaneously, you will have enough space available to carry a melon and a couple of root vegetables back home.
Sunglasses are essential if you’re planning an outdoorsy kind of day, as well as a small book to take a break between two fruit stalls and an energy bar, because you need loads of it when you’re shopping for that long!
Dates stress me out. You never know what to expect. The conversation could either flow (with or without champagne) or be as dry and arduous as the Sahara. At the same time, I guess that’s the beauty behind it all, right? Standing in front of the unknown. Although, one thing that I do have control on is the clothes that I’m wearing. I always make sure I pick an outfit that makes me feel good, beautiful and myself. Comfy, feminine and funky, that’s me! Worst case scenario, if my date and I have nothing to say to each other, there will still be my shorts to talk about.
A clutch is exactly like Tetris, but the handbag version. Everything has to be chosen and placed carefully, otherwise, nothing fits. I make sure I have my small earphones so I can blast Gust of Wind by Pharrell Williams and get an instant burst of confidence right before my date. I bring also my multitasking lip/blush stick and a mint case, an absolute must for a rendez-vous. Who knows, I might need it… so might my date! The KEIL has me covered.
